Stabbing suspect results in school lock down

Police say they responded to a home in the unit block of Nottinghill Court 21244 for an assault report around 10:30 am this morning. An adult female at the location advised that her husband had cut her with a knife. The husband is reported to have threatened to go to Dogwood Elementary school and kill the couples daughter.

Police advised Dogwood Elementary school of the threat & the school was placed on lock down as a precautionary measure. Officers were stationed at the school during the lock down.

Police say that around 11:17 am the school was downgraded to alert status. The suspects vehicle was located several blocks from the home with no sign of the suspect. Specialized units including the tactical team, K9 & aviation were called to assist with the incident. After a search police determined that the suspect had likely left the area. Dogwood Elementary was notified and taken off alert status – resuming normal operations.

Not long after, police in Wilmington, Delaware (approximately 85 miles away) apprehended the suspect.
He is awaiting extradition back to Maryland to face charges in connection with the incident. Police have not released his name at this time.

During the incident, parents of children at the school were instructed to go to a location at Security Square Mall to receive information on the situation.
